How does the Bible describe being filled with the Holy Spirit?

We can identify a very clear passage surrounding our responsibility of being filled, along with the Lord’s role here in Ephesians 5:15-18,

“Therefore see that you walk carefully, not as the unwise, but as wise, making the very most of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish and thoughtless, but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is. Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the Spirit and constantly guided by Him.”

There’s a very important distinction God makes here in Ephesians 1:13-14 when He provides every new believer with the Holy Spirit once they’ve repented of their sins & professed Him as Lord and Savior … compared to how we surrender to His will daily by allowing Him to guide us moment-by-moment in everything we do:

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He promised and that He has purchased us to be His own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify Him.

The following list from Galatians 5:22-23 is the evidence & result of the Holy Spirit’s presence and His help whenever we choose to surrender our daily decisions unto Him:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
