Why does anyone need to get saved?
We’re all born with an inherited sin nature, and it’s not mandatory to discontinue to live out our entire lives with our default human nature and continue in our sin.
However, for everyone who chooses to come to Christ, Scripture clearly lays out the only option available for any of us to become truly saved … with heaven someday being our final destination.
Ephesians 2:1-5 says,
Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)”
A good question to ask for those who have thus far rejected Jesus, might be, “What do I need to be saved from?” According to the Bible, salvation is necessary to avoid our just judgment for our sin.
Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10,
“For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.”
Paul also said in Romans 5:8-10,
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.”
None of us can claim we simply never knew there is an antidote that can ‘cure’ us from our sinful nature, and an eternity living apart from God! The question is, “Are we willing to repent of our sins, and surrender ownership of lives to Jesus here an now?”
